Fruit smoothies are a great way to start the day. Packed with tons of vitamins and minerals, fruit smoothies give you the nutrition you need in an easy to drink package. But it is also important to start the day with protein. Protein in the morning helps kickstart your metabolism and fuel your body and brain for the day ahead. Thankfully, you can have both your fruit smoothie and protein easily. We have a few favorite protein packed smoothies that will kickstart your day and your metabolism.
Adding Protein to Your Smoothie
It’s incredibly easy to add protein to your fruit smoothie. If you are looking for natural options, you can find pretty much all you need at your local grocery store. Oats are a good natural protein source, and they can add a great texture to your smoothie. Quinoa is another grain that you can throw in a smoothie to give is an extra burst of protein.
If you don’t want to add extra grains, pumpkin seeds and chia seeds are good protein sources too. Keep in mind that chia seeds can make the smoothie a little grainy, so if you like your smoothies smooth, chia may not be the best option.
If you want extra protein without a ton of extra calories, carbohydrates, or fat, protein powder is your best bet. With a variety of flavors to choose from, vanilla or chocolate protein powder can add a layer of flavor that will make your smoothies even more delicious. We are particularly partial to vanilla protein powder shake recipes because vanilla makes every smoothie better.
Wild Berry Protein Smoothie
This is a great healthy protein smoothie perfect for people who love berries. All you need is a handful of raspberries, 4 strawberries, a handful of blueberries, 2 cups of milk (nonfat or almond depending on your dietary needs), and 2 scoops of whey protein. This is one of the best vanilla protein powder shake recipes we have found yet. All you need is 2 scoops of vanilla protein powder, a teaspoon of vanilla extract, half a banana, 3 frozen strawberries, and a handful of ice.
